Clubs that play in stronger domestic leagues also began to participate in a more final round. For example, the three strongest leagues, according to UEFA's rankings, will see the champion and runner-up straight into a round group stage, and ranked third and fourth entry in the third qualifying round. There are exceptions to this rule; defending champions automatically qualify for the Champions League group stage, regardless of the final position in the domestic league. In the rotation Champions league clubs fight fiercely to occupy the top position so it is worth taking part of this championship.
